You see, I'm genetically predisposed to <em>Diablo</em>. It's something I think about each and every day.<br /><br /><em>Diablo</em> is a proper addiction to me. <em>Diablo 2</em> is something I associate with the darkest moments of my life, when I skipped showers and seriously lived on Pop Tarts. My only comfort back then was the dim glow of the monitor and the random piece of treasure the game would occasionally drop for me as I toiled away hours doing nightmare-level Meph runs.<br /><br />I have an addictive personality, as many of those who have met me in real life can attest. I eat horribly, can't seem to quit smoking cigarettes and have drunk to excess on occasion. The <em>Diablo</em> experience is like some kind of magical talisman created by the wizards of southern California that is meant to poke and prod that dark place inside me I actively ignore and deny every day of my life. <em>Diablo</em> brings out my greed and disdain for everything other than myself in the worst way.<br /><br />But again, these are just words. They don't mean anything without examples, so I'm going to take you back to when I was in college and <em>Diablo 2</em> ruined my life.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/i-can-never-play-diablo-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>I can never play Diablo 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/i-can-never-play-diablo-3/">I can never play Diablo 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 May 2012 15:00:00 EST. It's an FPS with a mobile/tablet sidearm, described as working together "unlike any game before," though no further details beyond that were provided. The only other aspect U4iA revealed is customization, which we figure is the awesome lizard hat seen in the screenshot above.<br /><br />U4iA was founded by Chris Archer and Dusty Welch, former Activision and Call of Duty vets. With <em>Offensive Combat</em>, the two hope to deliver "the most competitive multiplayer action ever seen within a browser." A beta for <em>Offensive Combat</em> kicks off this summer.<br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/u4ia-rips-the-wrap-off-free-to-play-fps-offensive-combat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>U4iA rips the wrap off free-to-play FPS Offensive Combat</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/u4ia-rips-the-wrap-off-free-to-play-fps-offensive-combat/">U4iA rips the wrap off free-to-play FPS Offensive Combat</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 May 2012 13:00:00 EST. Originally debuting on WiiWare, this game is - well, it's basically <em>Trials</em>. If you haven't heard of <em>Trials</em>, then you <em>really</em> need to start reading our site more.<br /><br />In short, <em>MotoHeroz</em> is a physics-based side-scrolling racer with platforming elements and a really depressing leaderboard where your friends show you how much better they are at the game. <em>MotoHeroz</em> is free to download on all iOS devices running version 4.1 or greater.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/gas-up-the-truck-for-free-in-motoheroz-ios-right-now/">Gas up the MotoHeroz iOS truck for free right now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 May 2012 03:00:00 EST. On the PS3 and PSN list, thatgamecompany's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/journey"><em>Journey</em></a> followed Ubisoft's long-awaited title. Reverge Labs' debut <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skullgirls"><em>Skullgirls</em></a> managed to snag the third spot.<br /><br />On the PS Vita side, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/escape-plan"><em>Escape Plan</em></a> continued to dominate - no surprise since there's not much else for the PS Vita right now, though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/finally-you-can-play-cho-aniki-zero-on-your-vita-finally/">that changes today</a>. <em>Modern Warfare 3</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/19/psa-modern-warfare-3-fires-off-content-collection-1-on-psn-t/">Content Collection #1</a> drop on PSN also did well, topping out the PS3 add-on category. Finally, <em>Final Fantasy VII</em> was the top PSOne Classic, but then again you already knew that because it's always <em>Final Fantasy VII</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/16/i-am-alive-tops-april-2012-psn-downloads-escape-plan-still-atop/">I Am Alive tops April 2012 PSN downloads; Escape Plan still atop PS Vita list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 May 2012 01:00:00 EST. First, your game will lock up for a minute or so, then you'll be sent back to the character selection screen.<br /><br />According to Eurogamer, at this point you'll log back in and find that you've retained all gold, experience and items - no penalties there. Once you get back into the game, you'll start from your last checkpoint.<br /><br />The decision to require a constant internet connection initially received <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/05/blizzard-responds-to-complaints-over-diablo-3-connection-require/">some blowback from the community</a>, but it would seem it's not as bad as initially thought, at least in one regard. Eurogamer even notes that being booted back to the character selection screen didn't happen every time - occasionally the game would resume as if no disconnect even occurred.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/diablo-3-internet-hiccups-dont-penalize-players/">Diablo 3 internet hiccups don't penalize players</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 May 2012 18:00:00 EST. During today's financial briefing call to investors, THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell said <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/devils-third"><em>Devil's Third</em></a> no longer fits the publisher's "profitability profile."<br /><br />"The profitability profile for <em>Devil's Third</em> no longer met our internal threshold and we are currently in discussions with third parties regarding the future of this title," Farrell said. "There were a couple of unforeseen events that happened during the development of <em>Devil's Third. </em>One was the company that Valhalla was using for the engine went out of business, so we had to assist Itagaki and the team with a new engine - it took a fair amount of time and cost a fair amount of money."<br /><br />The other big issue was the appreciation of the Yen, which reduced <em>Devil's Third</em>'s potential for profit compared to other stuff in THQ's pipeline. "We think it's an excellent franchise; we've really enjoyed working with Itagaki-san, and we're going to explore other opportunities with him and others to make sure this product comes to market."<br /><br /><em>Devil's Third</em> is the first project from Tomonobu Itagaki's new development studio, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/valhalla-game-studios/">Valhalla Game Studios</a>. Itagaki, who is quite possibly best known for his years at Tecmo on the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series of games, left Tecmo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/itagaki-leaves-tecmo-sues-them-on-the-way-out/">back in 2008</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/thq-looking-to-sell-off-devils-third/">THQ looking to sell off Devil's Third</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 May 2012 17:21:00 EST. If you're worried the visuals in <em>Black Ops 2</em> won't be up to snuff, Treyarch head Mark Lamia assures us all the engine has seen numerous tweaks, downplaying its age in a recent audio interview summed up over on <a href="http://oneofswords.com/2012/05/mark-lamia-discusses-the-black-ops-ii-engine/">One of Swords</a>.<br /><br />Lamia said "a pretty significant amount of work" in <em>Black Ops 2</em> is going into the graphics and the lighting. "I think what people are asking for is for us to push. They want us to make a better-looking game; they want things. I don't think those are things people can't ask for. We asked ourselves that very same question - we wanted to advance the graphics. I think the questions are valid. The answer may not need to be an entirely new engine, but you might need to do an entire overhaul of your entire lighting system. The trick is, we're not willing to do that if we can't keep it running at 60 frames per second - but we did that this time."<br /><br />Lamia gave an analogy akin to remodeling a home - not with a rocket launcher, but rather he talked about sectioning off parts of the metaphorical house for more local improvements. "There's a lot of good still in that foundation that you wouldn't get rid of, and we don't. We look to advance in the areas that support our game design. Engines, each time they get touched, they change. The creators alter them; they don't modify what they don't need to, and then they alter what they need to. You can't make a competitive product if you're not upgrading that engine along the way."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/lamia-says-black-ops-2-visuals-a-priority-downplays-age-of-engi/">Lamia says Black Ops 2 visuals a priority, downplays age of engine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 May 2012 02:15:00 EST. The Ninja Theory reboot of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dmc-devil-may-cry"><em>Devil May Cry</em></a> is expected to sell two million, and this month's launch of <em>Dragon's Dogma</em> is expected to yield a total of 1.5 million units sold. Finally, the recently announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lost-planet-3"><em>Lost Planet 3</em></a> - which is in development at Spark Unlimited - is expected to sell the least of the bunch, with 1.4 million copies.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/11/capcom-projections-resident-evil-6-sells-7-million-dmc-does-2/">Capcom projections: Resident Evil 6 sells 7 million, DmC does 2 million</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 May 2012 22:00:00 EST. An Atari representative has told Joystiq that despite the "divestiture process" wording in the financial statement sourced below suggesting closure of the studio, Eden Games has not been fully liquidated. Eden Games still exists, and Atari plans to support the studio moving forward.<br /><br /><blockquote class="bq-standard"> "Our earnings statement contained a report about the divestment of Eden Games. We want to make it clear that the studio has not closed and that we will continue to support the console and PC games of Eden Games, notably Test Drive Unlimited 2, while this process is underway. The divestment is in line with our previously stated strategy of exploiting our popular intellectual property library on mobile devices, where he have seen strong initial success, and via online games and licensing."</blockquote><br /><strong>[Original story]</strong> Eden Games is no more. Last year Eden Games engaged in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/test-drive-dev-eden-games-goes-on-symbolic-one-day-strike/">a "symbolic" one-day strike</a> in response to a first wave of layoffs, and today Atari has shut down what was left of the French studio responsible for the <em>Test Drive</em> series of racing sims.<br /><br />"Eden Games has been accounted for as 'Discontinued Operations' under IFRS 5, as the Company has started a divestiture process of the studio," Atari's earnings report reads. (That's business speak explaining Eden Games has been dissolved.) Earnings for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012 show Atari made $51.3 million - a 44% decline compared to last year's $77.8 million in revenue.<br /><br />Last year, when the first round of Eden Games employees were dismissed, some went on to found <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/05/french-studio-blossom-minds-founded-by-former-eden-games-designe/">Blossom Minds</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/11/atari-shuts-down-test-drive-series-developer-eden-games/">Atari says Eden Games isn't closed, plans to continue supporting the studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 May 2012 18:30:00 EST. Just look at <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=472706">this one guy's computer</a> - no joke! That anticipation translates into a lot of pre-orders; however, not all of those pre-orders are through Blizzard's Battle.net service. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/amazon">Amazon</a> is apparently another popular pre-purchase destination.<br /><br />A representative for Amazon told Joystiq that <em>Diablo 3</em> is Amazon's most pre-ordered PC title ever. "Today, it became the most pre-ordered PC game of all-time on Amazon.com - even exceeding pre-orders for Blizzard's own <em>StarCraft II</em> and <em>World of Warcraft: Cataclysm</em>," the rep said.<br /><br />It's been a pretty good month for pre-orders on Amazon. Earlier this month, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/amazon-black-ops-2-day-one-pre-orders-higher-than-black-ops-mo/">day-one pre-orders for <em>Black Ops 2</em></a> managed to top pre-orders for the first <em>Black Ops</em> and even last year's <em>Modern Warfare 3</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/11/diablo-3-is-amazons-most-pre-ordered-pc-title-ever/">Diablo 3 is Amazon's most pre-ordered PC title ever</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 May 2012 09:30:00 EST. Masahiro Sakurai, the game's director, has said that it's possible we could see another <em>Kid Icarus game</em> in the next 25 years, but not from his studio, Project Sora.<br /><br />"If by 'lasting universe' you mean to ask if there's a sequel, the answer is no," Sakurai told <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/05/09/no-sequel-for-kid-icarus-uprising">IGN</a>, "because we pushed a lot into the game in order to let people have this short yet deep experience, but the novelty of that would likely grow thin in the next game. For now, my thought is that perhaps we'll see someone else besides me make another <em>Kid Icarus</em> in another 25 years."<br /><br />25 years is a long time, but we're sure <em>Kid Icarus: Rerising</em> will really rock the 8DS when it drops in 2037.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/10/kid-icarus-uprising-sequel-not-likely-sakurai-says/">Kid Icarus: Uprising sequel not likely, Sakurai says</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 May 2012 17:30:00 EST. A lot of the testing, Morhaime said on the call, was beneficial to <em>Diablo 3</em>'s development - particularly to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/01/diablo-3-getting-global-play-auction-house-explained/">the Auction House feature</a>.<br /><br />Of course, the beta suffered its fair share of hiccups, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/24/diablo-3-beta-pulled-300k-simultaneous-players-into-its-special/">300,000 concurrent users</a> marked the high point of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/20/diablo-3-beta-open-to-all-this-weekend/">the weekend open beta event</a>. We just hope Blizzard is prepared for more than that, because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/diablo-3-emerges-from-hell-may-15/">we feel a touch of the flu coming on</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/09/diablo-3-open-beta-nets-2-million-participants/">Diablo 3 open beta nets 2 million participants</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 May 2012 18:15:00 EST. The Legend of the Beast costs $4.99 and adds three new campaign missions, along with three new maps each for Brutal Survivor mode and Chaotic Versus mode. And again (weirdly), this is DLC for Serious Sam's second HD game, not the most recent <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/serious-sam-3"><em>Serious Sam 3</em></a>.<br /><br />In addition to the DLC, all <em>Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter</em>'s multiplayer modes - which include both co-operative and competitive-based modes - will be free for all through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/steam">Steam</a> on May 15. All you have to do is download the free, standalone multiplayer on or after May 15 and you're good to go.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/serious-sam-hd-the-second-encounter-legend-of-the-beast/">Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter (Legend of the Beast)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/serious-sam-hd-the-second-encounter-legend-of-the-beast/#5010142"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/legendofthebeast01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/serious-sam-hd-the-second-encounter-legend-of-the-beast/#5010143"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/legendofthebeast02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/serious-sam-hd-the-second-encounter-legend-of-the-beast/#5010144"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/legendofthebeast03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/serious-sam-hd-the-second-encounter-legend-of-the-beast/#5010145"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/lotbcapsulemain_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/09/legend-of-the-beast-dlc-coming-to-serious-sam-hd-second-e/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Legend of the Beast' DLC coming to ... Tony has said that, depending on the HD remake's reception, we could see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/tony-hawks-pro-skater-hd-could-receive-levels-from-other-thps-g/">other past levels added</a> - Hawk even envisions <em>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD</em> as a platform for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/16/pro-skater-hd-first-pitched-years-ago-could-see-new-content-as/">completely new content</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/08/tony-hawks-pro-skater-hd-lands-on-xbox-live-and-psn-in-june/">Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD lands on Xbox Live and PSN in June</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 May 2012 15:30:00 EST. It's got Vader fights, rampaging rancors and is the closest physical manifestation of <a href="http://youtu.be/kR3PT5E0XDo">that one kid</a>'s dream journal we may ever get.<br /><br />Now you can discover how <em>not goo</em>d the game is yourself with a free playable demo - if you're a Gold subscriber and own a Kinect sensor, that is. We may all have The Force inside us, but you still have to purchase your own Kinect sensor.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/08/i-suggest-a-new-strategy-r2-let-them-have-a-kinect-star-wars-d/">I suggest a new strategy, R2: Let them have a Kinect Star Wars demo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 May 2012 02:00:00 EST. The biggest feature of this new update is Retina Display support for the latest iPad.<br /><br />The other major feature of this update is allowing more Skylanders. Activision specifically calls out "Warnado, Wham-Shell, Camo and all of the Legendary Skylanders collection" in <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skylanders-cloud-patrol/id511136749?mt=8">the update notes</a>, though the full list of now-supported Skylanders is something we're trying to track down right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/07/skylanders-cloud-patrol-now-supports-more-skylanders-retina-dis/">Skylanders Cloud Patrol now supports more Skylanders, Retina Display for new iPad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 May 2012 23:15:00 EST. The publisher saw growth across many sectors, but perhaps most surprising was talk of investing $80 million in development of games for "Gen4 console systems" over the next 12 months, EA's fiscal 2013.<br /><br />It speaks to not only when we could potentially get our hands on some new hardware, but is potentially indicative of how much cash a major publisher will need in order to produce games for the next generation of AAA blockbusters. $80 million for one "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/12/epic-consoles-must-be-bleeding-edge-in-next-generation/">Samaritan</a>" seems like par for the course, right? That's how much we imagine it'll cost to produce one game in Superfuture 2013.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/07/ea-80-million-next-gen-development/">EA spending $80 million on next-gen development over next year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 May 2012 16:47:00 EST. Rather than awarding vast sums of cash to the first person to throw a perfect game in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mlb-2k12"><em>MLB 2K12</em></a>, this year the competition introduced a new setup: a period of time where everyone could try to pitch a perfect game, and a complex algorithm judging the results and assigning scores. Taking a lower-rated pitcher against a great squad, for example, gives you more points.<br /><br />The competition is closed and <a href="http://2ksports.com/perfectclub">the final eight have been chosen</a>, but one of the finalists has been accused of employing an exploit that allowed him to change the lineups on both teams prior to the start of the game, allegedly yielding a much higher score than his peers and allowing him to crack the top eight. <a href="http://kotaku.com/5907735/how-mlb-2k12s-huge-loophole-left-a-million+dollar-prize-exposed-to-cheating">Kotaku</a> has several images of supposed text messages between William Haff, the accused, and Scott Young, the individual who claimed he belongs in the top eight (he ended up in tenth) because others used the exploit to overtake him.<br /><br />The only problem is that a lot of the evidence is dependent on screen grabs of text messages - something anybody with a computer can create easily. However, Kotaku's Owen Good says he called Haff, who was apparently a bit dodgy when questioned yet assured he didn't break any of the official rules.<br /><br />We've reached out to 2K Games for comment, and to find out whether or not this controversy will affect the remainder of this year's festivities, or any future contests.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/04/report-mlb-2k12-perfect-game-million-dollar-challenge-ends-with/">Report: MLB 2K12 Perfect Game Million Dollar Challenge ends with accusations of cheating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 May 2012 21:00:00 EST. Developer Project Sora's director Masahiro Sakurai has offered some insight into the control scheme and some tips for a more comfortable gaming experience - beyond "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/kid-icarus-uprisings-3ds-stand-holds-up-to-scrutiny/">use the stand</a>," that is.<br /><br />"I think any game needs to provide new experiences and stimulating things to discover, but if we provided run-of-the-mill controls for it, that cuts down on the game's potential," Sakurai told <a href="http://ds.ign.com/articles/122/1224194p1.html">IGN</a>. "If a player used to touchscreen-based aiming played against someone used to right-analog control, the first player would probably dominate. The speed is on a whole different level."<br /><br />As for the pain in your hand, Sakurai has an easy solution: relax. "If there are players who say that it makes their hand tired, that's because you're applying too much force. Try to relax and work on building a rhythm to your control. Place the pen in the middle of the touchscreen; when you're flicking it, take the pen off the screen as you're sweeping with it, and stop right there. That's the basic idea." So in short, don't press too hard and try to be more elegant in your wrist control - it takes practice.<br /><br />Oh, and if you're a lefty, just know how lucky you are to be able to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/10/kid-icarus-uprising-gets-left-handed-mode-with-circle-pad-pro/">play Kid Icarus: Uprising with a Circle Pad Pro</a> - left-handed controls almost didn't make their way into the game. "Considering how close to the limit we pushed the 3DS during development, it's a miracle that we were even able to provide support for left-handed controls at the point of completion. Providing support for independent analog control was something that was technically impossible."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/04/sakurai-explains-kid-icarus-uprisings-contentious-controls/">Sakurai explains Kid Icarus: Uprising's contentious controls</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 May 2012 14:30:00 EST. The official Twitter account issued this image, teasing a shotgun-toting female. It's not the first time <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/making-the-call-of-the-dead-treyarch-on-black-ops-celebrity-zo/">a woman had to get her hands dirty</a>, though we think this one took the phrase a bit too literally.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/new-black-ops-2-art-teases-zombies-mode/">New Black Ops 2 art teases Zombies mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 May 2012 21:15:00 EST. Today's update reveals both David Hayter and Jennifer Hale will contribute their vocal talents.<br /><br />"Hayter will play the role of the head revolutionary in the world of <em>R&eacute;publique</em>, and Hale will voice the role of 'The Mentor' - a complex character who knows Hope better than anyone," the Kickstarter page <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/486250632/republique-by-camouflaj-logan/posts/220041?ref=activity">reveals</a>. Hayter is probably best known for voicing Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games, while Jennifer Hale was the voice behind the female Commander Shepard in the <a href="http://joystiq.search.aol.com/search?q=mass+effect&amp;invocationType=wl-joystiq"><em>Mass Effect</em></a> series and every other speaking female in video games ever.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/republique-gets-vocal-support-from-david-hayter-and-jennifer-hal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Republique gets vocal support from David Hayter and Jennifer Hale</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/republique-gets-vocal-support-from-david-hayter-and-jennifer-hal/">Republique gets vocal support from David Hayter and Jennifer Hale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 May 2012 15:45:00 EST.
